About Dr. Jarrett

Born in Mission, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Jarrett attended Sharyland High School where both of his parents were teachers. His father, Jim, was the Vocational Agriculture instructor and his mother, Peggy, taught high school English. He was active in FFA, Drama Club, and played 4 years on the varsity football and basketball teams. His senior year, the Sharyland Rattler basketball team was Bi-District champions with a record of 24-4. He is the second son of 5 sons so his mother complained of living in a “boy’s dirty underwear factory”. His daughter, Kim Jarrett Bolton, DVM practices in Killeen and his son, Clinton Lane Jarrett, owns CJ Construction of Weatherford. Dr. Jarrett resides in the Garner community with his wife Lacey, stepdaughters Madison and Audrey Thibodeau, 6 dogs and enjoys home improvement projects, scuba diving, sporting clay gun sports, and duck hunting.

Dr. Pat Jarrett graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and in 1975 received his degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. He began his life as a veterinarian by serving in the United States Army Veterinary Corps for 2.5 yrs at the Military Ocean Terminal on New York Harbor followed by 1 year at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. At New York and New Jersey military installations, his duties included small animal care and military food inspection. At Fort Sam Houston, care was provided for the U.S. Army Equestrian Pentathlon Team horses, small animal medicine and surgery for military working dogs (guard/sentry canines), and small animals belonging to military families. Since both of his children were born during active duty, he likes to brag that they only cost him a total of $39.95.

After leaving military service, he practiced both large and small animal medicine for 2 years at Mabank Animal Hospital, just north of Athens, Texas. Moving to the metroplex in 1979, his family lived in Grand Prairie where he practiced at Grand Prairie Animal Hospital with Dr. Bob Wilson. Here, he received experience in working with racing Greyhounds and other sight hounds. A partnership with Dr. Mac Todd of Fort Worth followed that had Dr. Jarrett rotating between Collins South Pet Clinic, Town & Country Vet Clinic, and Pangburn Animal Hospital. At Pangburn Animal Hospital, he spent almost 2 years working as the resident veterinarian for the Humane Society of North Texas. Dr. Jarrett spayed or neutered over 6,000 animals at their low cost spay/neuter clinic on Hemphill Street in Fort Worth. In 1983 he was honored with the Humanitarian of the Year award for services to the Humane Society of North Texas for his work with the spay/neuter program, cruelty investigations, and for providing veterinary care for all animals adopted by the society.

Following the dream of owning his own hospital, Dr. Pat Jarrett purchased the Parker County Veterinary Hospital in 1985. Originally, it was a mixed practice that included all animals. He used to say, “If it walks, crawls, flies or dies, I’ll treat it!” Horse colic’s at 2am, trimming parakeet wings, gluing the cracked shell on a turtle, delivering a two headed calf, midnight c-sections on a 100# female Irish Setter, turning down a request to declaw an African lioness, x-raying a pregnant Iguana, bone platting the fractured leg of a potbelly pig, and removing a rubber ball from a cat’s intestine are just some of the general practice challenges that occurred. Giving in to age and knee problems, Dr. Jarrett limited services to small animals since 1991. His hospital provides veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and pocket pets such as hamsters, guinea pigs, pet mice/rats, and gerbils.

Over the years, the practice has developed into a family business with Dr Jarrett’s wife, Lacey, working as Practice Manager and as a Veterinary Technician. His daughter-in-law, Jinnelle Jarrett, also works as a Veterinary Technician with over 13 years clinical experience.
